Fada Oluoma sermon on Christian and Church, Religion and Culture
Fada Oluoma

In a Sunday sermon, Fada Oluoma a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Abuja, Nigeria advised Christians about the significance of culture and tradition.

While making references to notable events from the Holy Bible the Catholic priest informed the congregation that Jesus Christ didn’t make life hard as some Christians today have taken Christianity.

He mentioned that Christ attended functions and in one of those functions he turned water to wine at a traditional wedding ceremony.  Thus, Oluoma advised that as Christ wasn't anti-social, Christians should not see ceremonies as evil, especially if they are traditional ceremonies.

The Catholic priest further explained that some things are hereditary, traditional and a way of life therefore Christians shouldn’t do away with culture in the name of Christianity.

He cited that in the Igbo culture (SouthEast Nigeria) kola nuts are significant because of how long they stay without deteriorating, thus elders break them to pray for long life.

Oluoma, however, warned Christians from attending functions and gatherings where incantations, sacrificial rites and diabolical things which involves taking another man’s soul.
