The Catholic Church in Nigeria has announced the death of one of its priests, Reverend Father Joseph Akete.
The priest who was the presiding officer of the St. John Catholic Church, Kudenda in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was kidnapped on March 8, about 9 weeks ago.
This was made known by the Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, Reverend Father Christian Okewu.
The Chancellor mentioned that the priest aged 48 years, died between April 18-20, as he was sick during his abduction, but this captors didn't allow him go along with his drugs when he was taken away.
“His own brother was killed there in his presence and after his brother was killed, his condition worsened and he died.
“We have not recovered his corpse but we have confirmed his death. People who were kidnapped together with him saw him died, the Chancellor mentioned in a statement releases to journalists.
Reverend Father Joseph Akete was kidnapped alongside some persons when some gunmen raided his parish, with a guard being killed.
