President of CAN, speaks on ASUU strike
President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and Dr Okoh, President of CAN

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been advised to do everything necessary to end the continuous withdrawal of service by the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria which has led to the academic institutions being closed down for more than 7 months.

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr Daniel Okoh made this appeal on Sunday in his address at the interdenominational church service on Sunday which was held to mark the 62nd Independence Day of the country at the National Ecumenical Centre at the nation's capital in Abuja.

The Vice President of the country, Professor Yemi Osinbajo who is a Christian says that despite the challenges of the nation, God's promise for the nation will be fulfilled.

Okoh described the ceaseless absence of the youth from school as dangerous because, "as it is often said that 'idle minds are the devil's workshop, idle lips are his mouthpiece,'" he said.

Therefore he appealed that, "I call on the Federal Government to do all that is necessary so that most of these youths will go back to the universities and engage with their studies."

On his part, Osinbajo declared that "the future of Nigeria will be far more glorious, more peaceful that her past, and so it shall be for you too…

"We stand at the gates of a new nation and we see its lights shinning bright. The nation of God's promises, a nation of opportunities, of equity and justice, a secure and prosperous nation, a nation of laws and righteousness.

"Even if what we see today seems bleak, and dark, we are confident that God whom owns the heavens and the earth will fulfill His promises concerning this nation."
