The seat of the Nigerian Presidency is about to be vacant as incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari will step aside on May 29.

Buhari (79) a Northern Muslim came into power in 2015 when he ousted incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan, a Southern Christian in an election.

However, a journalist from the North of Nigeria, Jaafar Jaafar has declared that for the sake of fairness, the next president of the nation should be a Christian and a Southerner.

Constitutionally, it is not written that the Presidency should be rotated, between the predominantly Muslim North and that of the Christian South, but political elites have fashioned it out as a way to balance power.

"You can’t separate these from Nigerian politics. In d (the) spirit of fair play, unity & stability of Nigeria, when a Northern Muslim served for 8 years, a Southern Christian should take d (the) baton," Jaafar tweeted yesterday.
