Closing of eyes during prayer
Christians closing eyes during prayer

Opening one's eyes during prayer is what Christians should normalise doing says social media user Daniel Regha on Twitter. Regha advised that if the eyes are closed, one must stay vigilant as not everyone who is present at the place of worship is there to fellowship, as some are present due to negative reasons.

He mentioned this in a tweet, "Normalize opening ur eyes when praying in the church, but if u prefer closing 'em, just make sure u stay vigilant; Cos not everyone is there to fellowship, some people come to steal. Don't loose-guard, so u won't be praying while ur phones & other valuables have reached junction."

However, there are reactions to Daniel Regha's opinion as some other social media users shared their thoughts regarding the matter.

Engineer Uche Justin expressed almost the same thought with Regha as he wrote, "The reason we close our eyes to pray is to concentrate and focus on our prayer points using God's words...... But be careful." Oshe Joshua agrees too, he opined that closing the eyes during prayer isn't a must, it is only done "to avoid distractions."

In his response, @Onuchinedu5 warned Regha to desist from giving wrong advice. "Stop advising people not to close their eyes while praying. One of the important reasons why you are advised to close your eyes is been focused. You can hold your phones or bag in your hand while praying. Closing your eyes keeps you more focused to God."

However, Taywor Triumph says he does open his eyes during prayer as it is not compulsory to do so. "During prayers I open my eyes to know what is happening around me. It is not actually compulsory to close eyes during prayer," Taywor replied.
