Afghanistan Christians, TalibanChristians
Taliban Fighter

The determination to help Christians in Afghanistan where the Islamic government of Taliban holds sway, made an American Church engage in what can be described as a "desperate and stubborn method."

What led to this?

During a Sunday service, the Rolla Church of Christ in Missouri received a special donation which was tagged "For the Christians in Afghanistan and China," and it came in as an anonymous donation of $20 bills in a total of $5,000.

Meanwhile, one of the elders in the Church Andy Cassidy and his wife, Cathy had been helping children in Afghanistan learn remotely through World English Institute

As a result of this, Andy and Cathy had established contact with some Christians and had been encouraging them, among which is the oldest Christian in Afghanistan who had converted to Christianity in 2010.

As a lot of international firms and western countries left the country, the majority of Afghans become jobless and were going through so much hardship such as eating only a meal a day.

Worrying how the Christian families in the country would copy especially during winter, Andy shared with the mission's committee of the Church and the congregation the despairing state of affairs of brethren in the Islamic country.

This made the leaders of the Rolla Church agree to help send funds which would help provide food and heat for Afghan Christians during the winter period.

How will Afghan Christian families receive the funds?

Western Union was available for money transfer at that period, the leaders of the Rolla Church decided to send $300 to four Christian families as long as the anonymous $5000 could last, but this could not be possible as information reached them that sending money into the Islamic country will not be possible.

"They were told it seemed to be a combination of the U.S. blocking the funds for fear they would get into the hands of the Taliban and distrust by the Taliban of anyone connected with the West," the Christian Chronicles reported.

The leader of Rolla's missions program at the time, Kirk Davis, kept thinking of ways on how these families would receive their survival funds. They thought of sending it through other countries like Great Britain, Canada and other countries wasn't successful.

Then came the stubborn approach.

In a show of determination, a member of Rolla sent funds to Afghanistan in their name, but it did not go through, as the transaction was blocked. Another member did the same and it also was blocked. Luckily the attempt by a third member of the congregation became successful as the payment was accepted.

With this stubborn method, money was sent to these Christian families and the $5,000 lasted through March. This effort resulted in more Americans donating more funds to the Rolla Church to help Christian families in Afghanistan.

You can help donate to the Rolla Church of Christ to help provide food and heat for Christians in Afghan by donating through their website or to the Rolla Church of Christ at 1303 Nagogami Rd, Rolla, MO 65402.
