Pastor Oge Ogwe

Pastor warns of potential misinterpretations, urging Christians to avoid using The Passion Translation in personal and group studies.

Pastor Oge Ogwe of the Circle Church Global has advised Christians to "stop using The Passion Translation, popularly called TPT to study" the Bible, he said in a social media post.

He gave his reason due to how the popular The Lord is My Shepherd declaration in Psalm23:1 was translated by The Passion Translation as "Yahweh is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough," which differs from the popular King James version of "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

The website of The Passion Translation says the bible version is an easy-to-read Bible translation, which reveals the deep mysteries of the Scriptures, it's suitable for those who are hungry for God as The Passion Translation will help them encounter God's heart by loving God all over again.

In the social media post, he explained that, while he sees that there exists good intention behind the translation of The Passion Translation, as it's an attempt to make the Bible more relatable, he expressed that while he understands that "I know that you might think I'm being too strict, but I'm not. Some of these additions are truly harmless, but others aren't! And if you're not careful, you won't know when you've believed what you ought not to."

Pastor Oge however recommended the ESV, NIV, NASB, NKJV, or HCSB.
